Bipartisan Lawmakers Oppose Anti-Union Order

There has been an outpouring of opposition from lawmakers on both sides of the aisle to President Trump’s executive order (EO) stripping frontline federal employees of their lawful right to organize.

Reps. Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA) and Jared Golden (D-ME) yesterday introduced bipartisan legislation (H.R. 2550) to undo the March 27 order exempting many agencies from union representation and collective bargaining.

In addition, a group of Republican House members sent a letter to President Trump asking him to reconsider and rescind the EO.

“Collective bargaining has traditionally played a positive role in providing a structured channel for communication and addressing employee concerns, which ultimately promotes a more productive and stable workforce,” wrote Reps. Fitzpatrick, Mike Lawler (R-NY), Don Bacon (R-NE), Mike Turner (R-OH), Nick LaLota (R-NY), Andrew Garbarino (R-NY), Rob Bresnahan (R-PA), and Chris Smith (R-NY).
